Drifting Kelp in Space
I swam up to this kelp in December…..about 10 miles off the San Diego coast and over water more than 1500 feet deep. So late in the season, but the water was blue and calm. These drifting kelps are like little space ships out there, each holding some life. In this case mostly half-moons, juvenile jack mackerel and juvenile rockfish.
